POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — A small dump truck towing a trailer crashed into a home on Route 35 north Wednesday, breaking utility poles and causing traffic tieups that lasted into Thursday morning, according to authorities and reports.

The crash that happened about 3 p.m. at the corner of Route 35 and McLean Avenue on Wednesday did not result in major injuries, Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Paul Kanitra said. It did knock out power to more than 550 homes.

The driver of the truck, Ronald Bennett, 55, of Point Pleasant, was treated at the scene by The Point Pleasant First Aid and Rescue Squad and taken to the hospital, Point Pleasant Beach Police Chief Robert J. Kowalewski said. There were no other reported injuries.

The homeowners had left the home just before the crash happened, News 12 New Jersey reported, and shared dashcam video of the crash.

Firefighters from several fire companies responded to stabilize the house to remove the truck and were on standby until the utilities were secured, Ocean Fire Company said in a post on its Facebook page, which showed photos of the cleanup.

Photos posted to the Ocean County Scanner News Facebook page showed the small dump truck, which was towing a trailer with a piece of equipment, had hit a utility pole on the corner and plowed into the front door of the home.

In addition to the Point Pleasant Beach Police, Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad, Ocean Fire Company, and Point Pleasant Beach Fire Company 2, South Wall Fire Rescue and Laurelton Fire Company responded with technical rescue teams that secured the home to remove the truck.

Kowalewski said Point Pleasant Beach DPW and the Ladies Auxiliaries from both Point Pleasant Beach fire companies responded and assisted at the scene as well.

The incident is being investigated by Officer Bryan Benites.

JCP&L crews worked through the night to replace the pole, and commuting delays continued Thursday morning as the repair work went on.
